  2. Hello There, Fellow SysOp!

  4. This disc was designed with BBS usage very heavily in mind.  Because of
  5. this, I put in several advantages for BBS usage:
  6.  
  7. [ 1] All File areas are only one sub-directory deep, and have a
  8.      consistent nomenclature making it easier to configure for your
  9.      BBS.
  10.  
  11. [ 2] All File listings are available in the file areas themselves AND in
  12.      a separate sub-directory.  The File Listings in the file areas are
  13.      intended for those that run the disc "native" with their BBS software,
  14.      and the ones in the separate section are put there for the convenience
  15.      of those that run Doorware on their board to control their CD-ROM
  16.      usage.  If you are running multiple CD's, such as the Pioneer unit,
  17.      or multiple nodes (or both!), then such doorware is usually a
  18.      necessity of life.

  20. [ 3] File listings are provided in two different formats for your
  21.      convenience.  This should make file format conversions either
  22.      unnecessary for you, or very easy to do.

  24. [ 4] All Files have been checked with the latest Shareware Anti-Viral Scanners
  25.      to find any unwanted buggies.  Everything checked out with what was
  26.      available as of this date.  Also, no files with any sort of CRC corruption
  27.      were allowed to stay here.

  29. [ 5] All file listings have been checked (and double, and triple checked!) to
  30.      insure that all the files that are listed here ACTUALLY exist, and
  31.      ACTUALLY named what the file listing states they are named.  Nothing
  32.      annoys me more than to have file listings that don't seem to have a
  33.      clue as to what is really there.

  35. [ 6] Filename duplication has been carefully screened.  I'm not going to say
  36.      that there are NO file duplications by name, because I know that there
  37.      are.  However, these were deliberatly left in there, because they are
  38.      situations where the same name was applied to two totally different
  39.      files, or else the file has good cause to be in both sections.  For
  40.      example, one very common thread was to find a source code or utility
  41.      program that would apply equally to either C, Pascal, or BASIC, so it
  42.      was left in all three sections, rather than having people interested
  43.      in only one section left in the dark about the program.  Needless to
  44.      say, this is a very rare occurance, and it does not eat up a significant
  45.      portion of the CD-ROM.

  47. [ 7] Where possible, all files that are consecutive versions have been
  48.      eliminated, and only the latest version left.  The only exception to
  49.      this is some of the drivers.  I've found that "newer" doesn't always
  50.      mean "better," and I have had to use older drivers myself in order
  51.      to get things to work properly, so older drivers were left in here.

  53. [ 8] I have screened these files to be as topical as we can get for the
  54.      subject matter at hand.  All too often, a shareware disc tries to
  55.      be everything to everyone, and if you are like most SysOps, who
  56.      are starting to run more than one CD-ROM on their board, then you
  57.      will find that such repetition gets rather boring after while.
  58.      Lets face it, how many "shareware collections to end all shareware
  59.      collections" can your callers stomach?  <smile!>

  61. [ 9] I have endeavored to remove any annoying BBS ad files from these
  62.      files.  I have a large list of the pervasive R&E file names, and
  63.      have scanned for and removed them, as well as any other known annoying
  64.      items that can get in your way.  Why should you be advertising for
  65.      other boards on your system?  Heck if I know, and I won't force you
  66.      to do that here.  The only thing that was inserted here on this
  67.      disc was a legal disclaimer, and it doesn't sit there and tell you
  68.      to call our BBS in any way, shape, or form.

  70. [10] If you find a FILE_ID.DIZ file here, you can be reasonably sure
  71.      that it's from the author of the file.  I have seen a disc recently
  72.      that made heavy advertising copy about it's claim to have a
  73.      FILE_ID.DIZ in every archive... and when I examined it, I found that
  74.      the CD-ROM publisher had put it in there, complete with a two line
  75.      advertisement for themselves.  So, if you actually used that feature,
  76.      you would end up with dedicating 2/3 of your file listings to
  77.      advertising for these guys.  Give me a break!

  79. [11] Our File listings are pulled from FILE_ID.DIZ, DESC.SDI or the
  80.      README.TXT whenever available.  When those help files were not
  81.      available, we used more standardized BBS descriptions.

  83.  And so it goes.  You will find everything in sub-directories named for
  84.  their ease of "figuring out," whenever possible.  I don't think that you
  85.  will have much trouble in getting this set up on your board.  Everything
  86.  has been done to make this disc as painless a proposition as possible,
  87.  and I hope that this works out to making your life a bit easier.
